Student Intern Program

Student Intern Program

David Torrence, Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk, accepts applications from Davidson County High School students in their junior year for nonpaying summer internship positions. Ten (10) internship positions will last six (6) weeks beginning the second week of June.

The Criminal Court Clerk of Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee is responsible to perform the clerical duties for the operation of the criminal courts, both General Sessions Court and State Trial Court. The Clerk is responsible for record management, both hard copy and electronic, and prepares the minutes (official record) for the Criminal Trial Court.

Upon conclusion of cases, the Clerk calculates court costs and begins the collection of them, as required by statute. The Clerk prepares all cases under appeal for the Court of Criminal Appeals. The Criminal Court Clerk is also the custodian of all evidence submitted in the State Trial Courts.

The Criminal Court Clerk summer intern program provides a behind–the–scenes view of how the Davidson County Criminal Courts work on a daily basis, an opportunity few students have when considering the legal profession.

Work hours for all interns are flexible. Students accepted into the program will be required to attend a one–hour orientation before the start of the program.

An application should be submitted in the following manner: (1) a resume; (2) a recommendation from school principal; and (3) a cover letter with any other relevant information. Complete applications should be mailed to:
